In the early 2000s, the Library’s collection was enriched with the purchase of 19th-century printing machinery from a Syros printing press. Moreover, on 19th-century Syros, over 1,500 materials of various forms were printed. The number is impressive and ranks Ermoupoli behind just Athens as far as the Hellenic Kingdom is concerned, as well as Constantinople and Smyrna, if we consider Hellenism in general. Moreover, in the late 20th century the typewriter was gradually replaced by computers, and many typewriters were donated to the library by their owners, resulting in the creation of another interesting collection, which is continually being enriched. Also of interest is a polygraph circa 1923, a rare 100-year-old collector’s item.
