The project

The project entitled “DIGITIZATION AND PROMOTION OF THE HISTORICAL ARCHIVE OF THE SYROS MUNICIPAL LIBRARY” was implemented within the framework of the “ANTONIS TRITSIS” programme of the Ministry of Interior, with the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis as beneficiary.

The aim of the project was the documentation, digitization and creation of innovative applications for the promotion of the valuable archive of newspapers held by the Syros Municipal Library, dating from 1837 to 1916.

In addition to the digitisation and digital processing work, the project also included the implementation of the present website of the Library and a repository for searching the content of the newspapers and through visual character recognition.

At the same time, in order to display and disseminate the rich content, the following innovative applications were created:

– A Digital Educational Application on a touch screen
– A Digital Interactive Chronology of the History of Syros
– An Augmented Reality App on mobile devices
